Supporting interprofessional teams
The College has collaborated with other regulatory colleges to develop an online tool that helps interprofessional teams coordinate care.
Developed by members of FHRCO (Federation of Health Regulatory Colleges of Ontario), the Interprofessional Collaboration eTool accounts for the expanded (and overlapping) scopes of practice and authorities established by the Regulated Health Professions Statute Law Amendment Act, 2009.
The tool aims to help interprofessional team members resolve questions about individual or professional roles and responsibilities, including record keeping, transfer of care and providing specific elements of care. Specifically for nurses, it will help them with decisions they need to make as part of the interprofessional team, such as finding the right health professional to provide and coordinate aspects of client care.
Interprofessional team members can adapt the tool to unique point-of-care circumstances and use it to create a team work plan that identifies significant milestones in their client care.
The tool has three parts: a checklist; a set of frequently asked questions; and a comprehensive table of all scopes of practice, authorized controlled acts and links to relevant policies or standards for each regulated health care profession in Ontario.

FHRCO is made up of Ontario's 21 health regulatory colleges, which govern more than 260,000 health professionals. For more information about FHRCO, see www.regulatedhealthprofessions.on.ca.
