Celebrating 50 years
This year, the College of Nurses of Ontario looks backs with pride and forward with confidence as we celebrate 50 years as Ontario's nursing regulator. Since 1963, the College has had a single role — to serve the public. With this privilege and trust comes accountability. The College, on behalf of its members, has a proud history of demonstrating to the public that nurses are skilled professionals, accountable to standards for safe practice, for keeping up-to-date and for responding when concerns about practice are raised.
A special section of our website (www.cno.org/50) has been dedicated to the celebration and to recognizing the face of today's nurses – educated, experienced and collaborative leaders who are dedicated to providing the people of Ontario with safe care. Visit our website throughout the year to read profiles and watch videos of real nurses from across Ontario sharing their thoughts on the benefits of being a part of a regulated health profession.
In the coming years, the College will continue to guide and support nurses in meeting their accountability for safe and ethical care. Individual nurses, by embracing that accountability, remain the core of self-regulation. Ontario's nurses, through their commitment to their patients and their willingness to grow and develop, have contributed to the College's past successes and will help to build the future of regulation.
