CHAIR

L. Vanson, Chair of the Nominating Committee, chaired the election of officers. She welcomed newly elected members to the Council.

NOMINATIONS

L. Vanson announced the candidates who had been nominated to date, as follows:

Vice-President, RPN	D. Barber J. Badgerow

Nominations from the floor were requested. There being none, a motion to close nominations was requested.

Motion 1

Moved by B. Weichel, seconded by J. Sanger,

That nominations for officers be closed.

CARRIED

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

L. Haugh was acclaimed as President.

The nominated candidates for Vice-President each gave a short speech and participated in a question and answer session.

A secret ballot election followed. M. Axelson, L. Ross, and S. Young were as scrutineers for the counting of the ballots.

L. Vanson announced the results of the election of officers for 2001-2002:

L. Vanson requested a motion to destroy the ballots.

Motion 2

Moved by K. Wetherall, seconded by V. Floros-White,

That the ballots for the election of Council officers be destroyed.

The meeting recessed until 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2001.

AGENDA

The agenda had been circulated.

ELECTIONS COMMITTEE

C. Weylie reported that the deadline for recounts was June 5^th and there had not been a request for recount. Council was informed that the Elections Committee met this morning and declared the candidates elected in accordance with the official results.

STATEMENTS FROM NEW OFFICERS

L. Haugh, J. Badgerow and B. Rowley each addressed Council briefly. L. Haugh shared her perspectives on leadership and noted the importance of respecting the diversity of the Council.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

L. Vanson presented the report of the Nominating Committee. She thanked the members of the committee and highlighted the various factors considered in developing the list of committee members. She reminded Council members that, by agreeing to serve on Council, they have agreed to serve on any statutory committee. She confirmed that all committees play an important role in meeting the College’s mission and vision.

The committee membership lists were reviewed (See below).

Moved by M. Ternovan, seconded by B. Weichel,

That the list of committee members presented by the Nominating Committee be approved.

CARRIED

FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Executive recommended the non-Council members of the Finance Committee.

Motion 2

Moved by R. Kitson, seconded by L. Baker,

That Mary Ferguson-Paré and Janet Roberts be appointed as non-Council members of the Finance Committee until June, 2002.

CARRIED

COMPENSATION SUB-COMMITTEE

The Executive recommended the members of the Sub-Committee on Compensation.

Motion 3

Moved by I. Bajnok, seconded by C. Weylie,

That Charmaine Caron, Mary Ferguson-Paré, and Glenn Yaffee be appointed to the Sub-Committee on Compensation until June, 2002.

CARRIED

DATES

Dates for Council meetings for the rest of 2001 are October 3 and 4, 2001; and

December 12 and 13, 2001.

It was suggested that, in future, if the Council agenda is light the Executive consider starting the second day of Council at 9 a.m.
