Motions
Council Meeting: October 1 and 2, 2003
- That the agenda for the October 2003 Council meeting be accepted.
- That the minutes of the Council meeting of June 4, 2003 be accepted
as presented.
- That the minutes of the Council meeting of June 5, 2003 be accepted
as presented.
- That the proposed revised Finance Committee
Terms of Reference be approved as amended (appendix 1).
- That, effective October 2, 2003, Article 26.01 of the General By-Law
be revised as follows:
The Finance Committee shall be composed of seven persons, including
- the President;
- 2 RN councillors, one of whom is the Vice-President;
- 2 RPN councillors, one of whom is the Vice-President; and
- 2 public member councillors.
The Chair of the Sub-Committee on Compensation shall act in an advisory
capacity to the Finance Committee.
- That, upon the revision to Article 26.01 of the General By-Law coming
into effect, Eric Howe be appointed as a member of the Finance Committee
until June 2004.
- That the focused governance model, as amended, be adopted as the
model for reporting of the Finance Committee to Council.
- That Council amend its RPN Education Regulation, allowing for the
recognition of educational programs in Ontario that are equivalent to
those provided by Ontario Community Colleges.
- That CNO adopt the proposed definition
of advanced practice and the proposed key characteristics to be
used as a working description of the advanced practice of nursing.
- That CNO adopt the proposed definition of specialty practice which
encompasses all the dimensions of nursing practice.
- That CNO identify a master's degree in nursing as the minimum requirement
for an advanced practice nurse.
- That CNO introduce a regulatory amendment requesting title protection
for Nurse Practitioner, NP, for Registered Nurses in the Extended Class
who are fulfilling the Nurse Practitioner role, either in primary health
care or acute/specialty care.
- That:
- there be an entry to practice examination for the AC/SNP that
focuses on the core entry to practice AC/SNP competencies; and
- ongoing competence of the AC/SNP be assessed through CNO's quality
assurance program.
- That the first item in the membership section of the Elections Committee's
terms of reference be amended to:
The Council appoints from its councillors:
- four public members,
- one RN and one RPN from districts in which there is not an election
in the coming year.
- That the following members of the 2004 Elections Committee be ratified:
Kathy Cook, RPN; Ruth Graham, Public Member; Mary Ann Murray, RN; Brenda
Noble, Public Member; Bill Weichel, Public Member; and Sophie Young,
Public Member.
