Chair

M. McGinn, Chair of Nominating Committee, chaired the election of Council officers for the 2005/2006 Council. She welcomed the newly elected Council members to the table.

Nominations

M. McGinn announced the nominees:

President: S. Keating, D. Norling
Vice-President, RN: J. Attwood, C. Beemer, M.A. Murray
Vice-President, RN: Kathy Cook

M. McGinn requested nominations from the floor. There being none, a motion for closing nominations was requested.

Motion 1

Moved by D. Bishop, seconded by C. Genereux,

That nominations for the election of Council officers for the 2005-2006 Council year be closed.

CARRIED

Following closure of nominations, it was noted that K. Cook was acclaimed as RPN Vice President.

Election Process

Candidates each presented a brief statement and responded to questions. A secret ballot vote was held. Council briefly adjourned while the ballots were counted. The counting of the ballots was scrutinized by D. Bishop, R. Rupert and M. L. Sivilia. The results were provided to the Chair of the Nominating Committee.

M. McGinn announced the following officers elected:

Vice-President, RN: K. Cook

M. McGinn reminded candidates that the numerical results of the election are available for candidates on request until the end of June.

Motion 2

Moved by B. Weichel, seconded by R. Fife

That the ballots for the election of Council officers be destroyed.

Chair

S. Keating, President, assumed the Chair of Council.

Agenda

The agenda for the first meeting of the newly constituted Council had been distributed.

Motion 3

Moved by R. Fife, seconded by D. Dietrich,

That the agenda for the Council meeting of June 9, 2005 be approved.

CARRIED

Statements

Each of the newly elected officers spoke briefly.

PN Program Approval Committee

It was noted that the Executive is recommending reappointment of the current members, to implement phase II of the program review process.

Motion 4

Moved by K. Pederson, seconded by M. Lambert,

That the following be re-appointed as members of the PN Program Approval Committee from June 2005 through June 2006: Sandy Brewer, Edmonde Briere, Carol Butler, Lynne Compton, Debora Crowie, Jo-Ann Fekkes, Joan Gale, Lynne Gray, Glen Jones, Cheryl McMaster, and Joseph Rudyk.

Compensation Sub-Committee

The Finance Committee recommends the members of the Compensation Sub-Committee.

Moved by S. Ireland, seconded by R. Graham,

That the following be appointed as members of the Sub-Committee on Compensation from June 2005 through June 2006: Brenda Flaherty, Chair, Leslie Vincent, and Glenn Yaffee.

Nominating Committee

M. McGinn presented an overview of the process used by the Nominating Committee in identifying committee assignments. Based on feedback from Council and committee members, committee chairs and staff resources, the Nominating Committee has changed the focus of its process to enhancing committee effectiveness by building on the knowledge of experienced committee members. The slate of committee members recommended by the Nominating Committee is attachment 1 to the minutes.

That the slate of committee members, as recommended by the Nominating Committee, be approved.

Dates

The Executive recommended dates of Council meetings through 2006. It was requested that members be notified as soon as possible of changes in scheduling, including days added or deleted.

That the dates for Council meetings in 2006 be:

• Wednesday and Thursday, March 8 and 9, 2006

• Wednesday and Thursday, June 7 and 8, 2006 (Annual Meeting June 8 th, 9 a.m.)

• Wednesday and Thursday, September 27 and 28, 2006

• Wednesday and Thursday, December 6 and 7, 2006
