Amended NP Drug, Laboratory and Diagnostic Test Lists
Current Drug List
(Nursing regulation 275)[Français]
Drugs that NPs can prescribe
On July 30, 2007, the Ontario Government amended Regulation 275/94 under the Nursing Act, 1991, to include new drug schedules for NPs. The July 30 additions are highlighted in red below. NPs are now authorized to prescribe 73 more drugs. This is the second update to the drug list this year. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care did not remove any items from the previous list.
Note: The new drug list reflects the recommendations that the College submitted to the Ministry in summer 2006. There were three drugs proposed that are not included on the list below because NPs already have the authority to prescribe them:
- Cardizem CD is captured under the generic name diltiazem; and
- Adalat CC is captured under the generic name nifedipine.
- Biaxin Extended Release, which includes XL and BID, is captured under the generic name clarithromycin.
There were also two drugs proposed that are not available in Canada, and therefore were not approved: Cardene SR and Hydrochlorothiazide propranolol.
