Approved Nursing Programs
The College of Nurses of Ontario is the regulatory body for nursing in the province. It is not a school. The College sets the requirements for entry-to-practice into the profession and articulates practice standards for its members.
As part of its mandate to protect the public interest, one of the requirements for registration as a Registered Nurse in Ontario is a baccalaureate degree in nursing or an equivalent program from an approved nursing program.
Registered Practical Nurse applicants must graduate from a College of Applied Arts and Technology with a diploma from a program approved by Council, or a program equivalent.
To register as a Nurse Practitioner in Ontario, nurses must meet certain registration requirements, including the successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and an examination.
Approved schools of nursing also offer programs, courses and educational opportunities for individuals seeking to upgrade their education and become familiar with nursing in Ontario. International applicants with questions about these programs and courses are encouraged to contact an approved school of nursing for more information.
