Nurse-Client Relationship

The nurse demonstrates an understanding of the need to establish, maintain, re-establish and terminate therapeutic, caring, relationships with clients based on appropriate relational boundaries and respect.

The nurse:

5.01  Identifies the components of the nurse-client relationship.

5.02  Defines “the client” in the context of the therapeutic nurse-client relationship.

5.03  Lists the four Standard Statements associated with the therapeutic nurse-client relationship.

5.04  Identifies examples of Therapeutic Communication as outlined in the Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship practice standard.

5.05  Identifies examples of Client-Centred Care as outlined in the Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship practice standard.

 

5.06  Identifies examples of Maintaining Boundaries as outlined in the Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship practice standard.

5.07  Identifies warning signs of crossing a boundary.

5.08  Identifies examples of Protecting the Client from Abuse as outlined in the Therapeutic Nurse-Client Relationship practice standard.

5.09  (Rescinded)

5.10  Identifies examples of abusive behaviours in the context of the therapeutic nurse-client relationship (e.g., overt, subtle, cultural, unintentional).
