Learn about the Standards & Guidelines
The College creates practice standards and guidelines to support nurses in providing safe and ethical care to the public. These documents outline the expectations and accountabilities for nurses. They apply to all nurses, regardless of their role, job description or area of practice.
Drafting practice documents is a key function of a self-regulating profession. The documents are developed and regularly revised to reflect the current health care system and nursing legislation.
The College ensures its practice documents are relevant and up to date by:
- monitoring practice issues and trends;
- working collaboratively with external advisory/working groups; and
- collecting input from members through its Practice Support Line and Outreach Program.
All current versions of practice documents are available in the Documents List.
You can learn more about practice documents and how to apply them to your practice through a variety of College resources, including learning modules, teleconferences, our Practice Support Line and the Outreach Program.
