Prescription drugs now free for kids under 25
Nurses who provide care to children and youth should be aware that the province’s new universal drug program, OHIP+, came into effect on Jan. 1, 2018. OHIP+ provides prescription medication at no cost to OHIP-insured children and youth aged 24 and under.
All prescription medication on the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) program is now covered under OHIP+. The ODB Formulary/Comparative Drug Index lists more than 4,400 drug products. More medications are eligible for funding through the Exceptional Access Program.
If you're an NP who specializes in treating or providing care to children and youth, learn more about which drugs and drug products the ODB Formulary covers. This will enable you to help your clients access appropriate covered medications.
