College hires new Program Approval partner
The College has selected the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) as its partner to help implement our new Nursing Education Program Approval process.
Nursing Education Program Approval is the College’s standardized evaluation and monitoring process for approving all entry-level Practical Nurse Diploma programs (PN), Baccalaureate Nursing programs (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) programs in Ontario.
Program approval ensures all graduates are assessed using the same indicators, and are prepared to practise nursing safely, competently and ethically.
Using the new process, CASN will coordinate program logistics with schools, collect data, review documentation, conduct interviews and complete assessment reports for each program. Using these reports, the College will make program approval recommendations to its Council, and Council will decide which programs to approve.
The new process will be used to approve NP programs in 2018; PN and RN programs will follow in 2019.
