What you need to know about medical assistance in dying

The College's interim guidance on physician-assisted death (also known as medical assistance in dying) has been updated to clarify nurses’ accountability in providing client care and to address frequent questions from nurses and the public.

The new document, Medical Assistance in Dying: Interim Guidance for Nursing in Ontario replaces the previous one titled Physician-Assisted Death: Interim Guidance for Nursing in Ontario.

College comments on RN prescribing

This past January, the College participated in a consultation that assessed possible models for RN prescribing in Ontario. The consultation was led by the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council (HPRAC), who conducted broad consultations within the nursing and health care communities. The goal of the consultation was to assess three possible models for implementing RN prescribing in Ontario and recommend the model that is most appropriate.

News for Nurse Practitioners

The College is revising the Nurse Practitioner practice standard and has formed an advisory group to support the development process. The advisory group includes 11 NPs from across Ontario, representing the three specialty certificates and diverse practice sectors, areas of clinical focus and years of experience. We appreciate the interest of the 100 NPs who applied to join the advisory group when we sent an invitation in the December 2015 issue of The Standard.
