Government strengthens measures to protect patients

The Ontario government is proposing various legislative changes designed to improve patient safety. This will include changes to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 as a result of work done by a government task force on sexual abuse by health care professionals.

The intent is to:

  • strengthen measures to protect patients, such as increasing transparency of information on regulators' public register

  • support victims of sexual abuse by regulated health professionals, and

  • improve regulatory oversight and accountability.

The College is reviewing the bill and will be providing feedback to the government. We’ll keep you posted as this bill progresses.
