New NP standard and teleconference coming
Council has approved a new Nurse Practitioner practice standard that includes information about NPs' upcoming authority to prescribe controlled substances.
To help NPs prepare to apply the standard in their practice when controlled substances regulations take effect, an advance copy will be posted to our website on Fri., March 24, 2017. It will be watermarked as follows: “Advance copy. Not in effect until controlled substances laws have changed.”
NPs will not be required to practise according to the new standard until the proposed regulations enabling them to prescribe controlled substances come into effect.
Learn more at upcoming teleconferences
We will host two teleconferences about the new Nurse Practitioner practice standard and controlled substances authority on Mon., March 27 and Wed., March 29. During the sessions, we will provide answers to questions, such as:
What’s different in the new Nurse Practitioner standard?
How will the revisions apply to NP practice?
What effect will the new controlled substances authority have on NP practice?
What College resources are available to support NP practice?
The College is working with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to implement the regulations by the end of March 2017, subject to government approval. We will inform all NPs and stakeholders once we know the exact date.
