The College alleged that the Member contravened the standards of practice of the profession or failed to meet the standards of practice of the profession when she: physically and emotionally abused a client; forced a client to take a pill without consent; administered the wrong drug to a client; failed to document vital signs of a client when required to do so; and engaged in conduct or performed an act, relevant to the practice of nursing, that, having regard to all the circumstances, would reasonably be regarded by members of the profession as disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional.

The Member did not attend the hearing.

The Panel found that the Member engaged in professional misconduct as alleged, and that her conduct would reasonably be regarded by members of the profession as disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional.

The Panel accepted the College’s submission on penalty and ordered an oral reprimand, a seven-month suspension, and terms, conditions and limitations on the Member’s certificate of registration, including attending two meetings with a Nursing Expert and employer notification for 18 months.

The penalty sent a message to the public that the College will enforce its mandate of public protection diligently.
