The College alleged that the Member engaged in professional misconduct by: contravening a standard of practice of the profession when she administered Gravol to clients that was not ordered; failing to provide a blanket to a client; placing her hands on the mouth of a client while telling the client to “shut the fuck up” or words to that effect; mocking a client who has aphasia; using profanity with clients; making obscene hand gestures to clients; telling colleagues unsolicited information about her sexual activities; verbally, physically and/or emotionally abusing a client; and engaging in conduct or performing an act, relevant to the practice of nursing that, having regard to all the circumstances, would reasonably be regarded by members of the profession as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.

The College presented six witnesses, including an expert witness. The Member did not attend the hearing.

The Panel found that the Member committed acts of professional misconduct as alleged, but did not find that the Member administered Gravol that was not prescribed. The Panel found that the Member verbally, physically and emotionally abused clients. The Panel found that some of the Member’s conduct amounted to disgraceful and unprofessional conduct, while other conduct was found to be disgraceful, dishonourable and unprofessional.

The Panel ordered an oral reprimand and directed the Executive Director to immediately revoke the Member’s certificate of registration.
