New practice documents

The College has added two new documents to its practice guidelines:

• Working With Unregulated Care Providers
• RN and RPN Practice: The Client, the Nurse and the Environment 

The documents are available online only. They replace Working With Unregulated Care Providers, Utilization of Unregulated Care Providers and Utilization of RNs and RPNs.

Document Updates

Camp Nursing, Transferring Clients practice guidelines

The College of Nurses of Ontario’s practice standards and guidelines evolve to keep pace with the advances occurring in nursing practice. A regular review of our documents ensures that they are current and up-to-date. Our last review found the Camp Nursing practice guideline to have outdated clinical information and references; therefore the College will discontinue the printing of the document.

Similarly, the College will no longer publish the Transferring Clients practice guideline. Based on evidence generated through a collaborative research project with researchers, College staff and other regulated health colleges, it was determined that existing College practice standards and guidelines apply to the activity of transferring clients, and a specific guideline is unnecessary.

Clarifications

Independent Practice practice guideline

For clarity, the following phrase has been removed from the Independent Practice practice guideline:

For example, a nurse in independent practice who provides foot care services should not sell any foot care products to her/his clients.

Corrections

Authorizing Mechanism practice guideline

The chart on p. 12 of the Authorizing Mechanisms practice guideline incorrectly included chiropodists as health care professionals who were granted the authority to order treatments under the Public Hospitals Act, 1990. The word chiropodist has been removed from the chart.
