CNO refers Wettlaufer to discipline hearing
June 23, 2017 — The College of Nurses of Ontario’s (CNO’s) Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee has referred Elizabeth Tracy Mae Wettlaufer to a discipline hearing. Information about the referral and allegations are now on the public Register, Find a Nurse.
The date for the discipline hearing is Tuesday, July 25, 2017.
At a hearing, CNO provides the discipline panel with details of the nurse’s regulatory history, which then becomes public information. At the discipline hearing, information that was previously confidential under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, can be publicly disclosed.
Hearings are open to the public. To learn more about discipline hearings, visit www.cno.org/hearings.
CNO began investigating Ms Wettlaufer for her actions on September 30, 2016 — the same day she first informed us of them and resigned her registration. Since receiving the information, CNO has cooperated with the police investigation.
On June 1, 2017, once Ms Wettlaufer was found guilty of multiple counts of murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault of her patients, CNO was in a position to accelerate its own investigation.
We will provide more information to the public as it becomes available.
