Important notice – new and improved police criminal record check process

Effective Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, the College will only accept police criminal record checks submitted online through Sterling Talent Solutions’ myBackCheck portal – an online portal created exclusively for our applicants.

We will continue to accept criminal record checks that were ordered before October 15 if we receive them by November 15, 2018.

The police criminal record check is a requirement for anyone applying to become a nurse in Ontario or to reinstate their registration. Formerly, applicants had to obtain them through their local police department or an accredited fingerprinting company – this process typically took six to eight weeks, or longer. The new process will only take two to three days.

NOTE: Police criminal record checks are not required until applicants submit their application to become nurses in Ontario. Once they submit their application, they will receive instructions about next steps and be given a link to get their criminal record checks done online.

This new online process is part of the College’s ongoing initiative to upgrade its technology and improve its business processes.
