Can RN(EC)s consult with physicians whose licences are restricted? It is not uncommon for nurses to find themselves working with physicians whose licences are restricted. For example, International Medical Graduates or physicians who are in the process of receiving certification may have restricted licences. The terms and conditions of the restrictions are specific to each physician. Physicians with restricted licences are fully qualified to practise medicine. They are responsible for practising within any terms, conditions and limitations placed upon them by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. They are also responsible for determining any individual liability issues that may arise. An RN(EC) can consult with a physician whose licence is restricted. Nurses are not responsible for interpreting any terms, conditions or limitations on a physician’s practice.
