RN(EC) Examinations

Examinations – Approved September 26, 2007

On Sept. 26, 2007, Council approved to accept a number of exams for entry into the Extended Class. The College is negotiating to offer some, but not all, of the exams. It also recently changed the exam for the NP-Primary Health Care certificate from the Ontario-specific Extended Class Registration Examination (ECRE) to the Canadian Nurses Association’s Canadian Nurse Practitioner Examination: Family All Ages exam. Please see below for details.

 

Primary Health Care specialty certificate:

  • The Canadian Nurses Association: Canadian Nurse Practitioner Examination (writes from 2005 and onward). The College is negotiating to offer the Canadian Nurse Practitioner examination for primary health care.

 

Adult specialty certificate:

  • The American Nurses Credentialing Center: Adult Nurse Practitioner Examination (writes from 2002 and onward). The College is negotiating to offer the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) adult examination.

 

Paediatrics specialty certificate:

  • The American Nurses Credentialing Center: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Examination (writes from 2002 and onward). The College is negotiating to offer the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) paediatric examinations.
  • The National Certification Corporation: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Certification (writes from 2005 and onward). The College is not negotiating to offer the NCC Neonatal NP exam in Ontario. To make arrangements to write this exam, please contact NCC directly at: http://www.nccnet.org/public/pages/index.cfm?pageid=1 or (312) 951-0207. Once you are notified that you have passed the exam, or if you’ve successfully completed this exam since 2005, please submit to the College the notarized results. Click here for the mailing address.
  • The Pediatric Nursing Certification Board: Paediatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Certification Examination (writes from December 1999 and onward). The College is not negotiating to offer the PNCB exam in Ontario. This exam was approved to facilitate mobility for nurses from the U.S. as well as for Canadian nurses who have passed the exam. If you successfully completed this exam in or after December 1999, please submit to the College the notarized results. Click here for the mailing address.

 

Fees – Approved September 26, 2007

Also at the Sept. 27 meeting, Council amended the fees bylaw, including setting the fee for the RN(EC) registration exam at $1,100 (+ $55 GST). Other fees amended include:

  • Application fee for other classes or specialties within the Extended Class set at $46.73 (+ $2.34 GST) for graduates from a Canadian nursing program and $163.55 (+ $8.18 GST) for graduates of international programs;
  • Application for a certificate of registration in a class set at $46.73 (+ $2.34 GST);
  • Issuance of a specialty certificate set at $46.73 (+ $2.34 GST); and
  • Rescoring of all Extended Class exams set at $110.00 (+ $5.50 GST)
