Approved programs for NPs

To register as an NP in Ontario, nurses must meet registration requirements, which include graduating from an approved program and passing an approved exam.

The following are the educational programs that College Council has approved as meeting the registration requirements for the Extended Class. Applicants who have not graduated from an approved program will be assessed by Registration Committee.

 

Education

Primary Health Care specialty certificate


  • Athabasca University: Master of Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of July 2001
  • Athabasca University: Post-Master's Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of July 2001
  • Aurora College: Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of July 2001
  • Dalhousie University: Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates from July 2001 to April 2009
  • Newfoundland Centre for Nursing Studies: Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates until Jan. 1, 2008
  • Ontario Primary Health Care NP Program – Approved for graduates as of 1995
  • Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology: Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of September 2007
  • University of Alberta: Master of Nursing, Advanced Nursing Practice, Family All Ages – Approved for students admitted in September 2008 or after
  • University of British Columbia: Family Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of July 2001
  • University of Manitoba: Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of July 2001
  • University of New Brunswick: Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of July 2001
  • University of Northern British Columbia: Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner Program – Approved for graduates as of September 2007
  • University of Victoria: Master of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Stream – Approved for graduates as of July 2001
