Annual Membership Renewal date set
Annual Membership Renewal (AMR) will open on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017.
Here’s what you need to know about 2018 renewal.
How much time will nurses have to renew?
Once renewal opens on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, nurses will have more than seven weeks to complete their renewal applications and pay the required fees. Late fees begin to apply after Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018.
Suspension notices will be mailed no later than Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018. Failure to renew and pay all fees during this period will result in registration suspension on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Once suspended, failure to renew and pay all fees will result in membership expiry on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
How will nurses know when AMR is open?
Nurses will receive an email with a link to the application. We’ll also announce the opening on www.cno.org, in The Standard, on our Facebook page and in Quality Practice. (Consider joining our Facebook page for updates about renewal and other important information.)
Will the delay affect employment?
We understand some employers require proof that nurses have paid their fee and filled out the application. We are contacting unions and employers to explain the timeline in our process this year. Employers can also learn more about the delay on www.cno.org, in The Standard, on our Facebook page and in Quality Practice.
What is this year’s fee?
The 2018 renewal fee for members in the General and Extended classes is $200. (With HST, the total is $226.)
Members are required by legislation to renew every year by December 31. Because AMR is opening later than usual this year, we will not begin to charge late fees until after Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. After that, a late fee of $100 will also apply. (With HST, the total is $113.)
How can I pay my fee?
Nurses will be able to pay the renewal fee online. The College accepts credit card, debit, Interac Online or a prepaid credit or debit card. As of June 1, 2017, the College no longer accepts payment by cheque or money order for any service, including membership renewal.
Why is renewal later this year?
This summer we began implementing a significant upgrade to our computer systems. This upgrade will allow us to deliver improved service to our members and applicants in the future. The upgrades include a new online application for AMR. To make sure renewal goes smoothly, we decided to take some extra time to test the application before we opened AMR.
How do nurses log in to the application?
When renewal opens, nurses will be directed to Maintain Your Membership where they will log in with their email address and password. In the past, they used a user name. This year, they will use email as the log in, which is a simpler and more secure process. Unless they have changed it, their password is the same one used last year.
