You will need to meet the language fluency requirements to practise nursing in Ontario.
There are many English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) programs available in Ontario to help you improve your fluency. Local community agencies serving immigrants are good resources for these types of programs. Below are three such programs:
Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI)

Creating Access to Regulated Employment for Nurses (CARE)
CARE (Creating Access to Regulated Employment) for Nurses, is an organization that helps internationally educated nurses gain the knowledge and experience to pass the registration exam and practise nursing safely and confidently in Ontario. For more information about CARE, click here.
Professional English for Nurses and Midwives (CVIM500)
This program assists nurses and midwives read, write, speak and understand English at the advanced level demanded by Ontario's health care workplaces. This course covers the following:
- listening, speaking and writing skills specific to nursing and midwifery;
- advanced English language medical vocabulary;
- essential forms of communication (e.g., documentation, information sharing and counseling); and
- telephone skills (e.g., history-taking from clients, consulting with physicians).
