General for All Nurses

Opportunity for RPNs, RNs and NPs

(Feb. 14, 2008) The College is seeking nurses to help develop an objective assessment of two of its practice standards, which will be used in the Quality Assurance Program.

You may be asked to help develop a blueprint, write the questions for the assessment or provide feedback on the questions. You will be asked to either participate in four day-long meetings at the College or review information off-site.

To make the practice standards relevant to nurses practising in a range of settings, the College is asking for nurses from a variety of practice environments and in various roles. If you are interested in participating, please click here.

 

Medication Practice Standard Feedback Requested

(Feb. 12, 2008) The College is seeking RNs, RPNs and NPs from a variety of practice settings to provide feedback on a draft of the revised 2008 Medication practice standard. This standard applies to prescription drugs and other substances, including over-the-counter and herbal preparations.

RN(EC)

RN(EC)s Added to the List

(Dec. 6, 2005) Effective January 16, 2006, RN(EC)s will be added to the list of regulated health practitioners who can certify an applicant’s eligibility for a disabled parking permit. The change is part of the Ontario government’s new Accessible Parking Permit Program (formerly the Disabled Person Parking Permit Program). More information at the Ministry of Transportation.

Extended Class Registration Examination update

(Sept. 21, 2005) Ontario will continue to use the Extended Class Registration Examination (ECRE) for assessment of entry into the Extended Class.

RPNs can now initiate certain controlled act procedures

(May 16, 2006) Recently, the government passed changes to the Nursing Act, 1991, which allow RPNs in Ontario to initiate certain controlled act procedures.
