FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEDecember 15, 2003 New Director of Practice & Policy Announced by College of NursesToronto The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Campbell, RN, MScN as its new Director of Practice & Policy. Ms. Campbell will assume her new position at the College on January 19, 2004. As Director, Ms. Campbell will head the Practice and Policy department in establishing and evaluating nursing practice standards and in developing policy on issues essential to nursing regulation. The members of the Colleges Practice and Policy department also serve as expert resources for nursing stakeholders, such as educational institutions and the Ministry of Health, when the College is consulted on health care issues that arise throughout the province. We are delighted to have Heather join our team as we continue with our goal of building confidence in nursing self-regulation, says the Colleges Executive Director Anne Coghlan, RN, MScN. Heather is highly respected in the profession and has a broad understanding of the challenges in nursing practice today. Throughout her career she has demonstrated commitment to the concept of self-regulation and has been recognized for her commitment to patient-centred care. Ms. Campbell is currently employed as Chief of Nursing Practice, Professional Affairs at Hamilton Health Sciences Centre. During her tenure at Hamilton Health Sciences, she assumed a leadership role in the organizations Patient-Centred Care initiative and supported the reorganization of the Nursing Practice Council and its committees. Ms. Campbell has also held other high profile nursing positions, including Vice-President of Professional Practice and Chief Nursing Officer at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and Director, Professional Practice at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Toronto. A nursing graduate of McGill University, Ms. Campbell received her Masters of Science from Boston Universitys School of Nursing with an emphasis on Clinical Nurse Specialist, Rehabilitation. CNO is Ontarios largest health regulatory body with approximately 139,000 members.
