Medication
Ensuring the safe, effective and ethical administration of medications is an important component of nursing care. As with any treatment, administering a medication requires knowledge, technical skills and judgement. The Medication practice standard outlines nurses accountablities when administering medications in all practice settings.
Objectives
- Identify the nursing accountability and process related to medication administration.
- Describe the nurse’s role in relation to transcribing orders dispensing and repackaging medication.
- State the conditions contributing to medication errors and nursing responsibiltiy when errors occur.
- Discribe nursing role and responsibility related to administering allergy and immunization agents, sedation and placebos.
