Where Your Money GoesHave you ever wondered how the College spends your $125 annual renewal fee, or how you can get the most from your College membership? Membership fees are used to fund the Colleges programs and services, many of which are required in legislation. The College assesses and registers applicants, maintains a register of members, establishes practice standards for the profession, investigates concerns about nursing practice and maintains a Quality Assurance Program. Since the last fee increase in 2001, the College has maintained an operating surplus. This year, $14.40 of your 2004 annual fee will go toward that surplus. The last increase in annual fees was based on an anticipated continuing drop in membership revenues and an increase in costs related to external events, including changes to the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). Instead, over the last two years, membership has increased and the changes to the RHPA have not yet occurred. These factors have contributed to a higher-than-expected surplus, which is serving as a reserve to delay any future fee increases. Getting the most from CNOYour membership provides you with access to many resources and publications. You receive The Standard and access to free education sessions (see page 36) and a website (www.cno.org) that has free downloads of publications, including the Compendium of Standards. Supports the Discipline and Fitness to Practise Committees. Practice and Policy ($19.17)Articulates standards of practice and professional standards. Provides member education and advisory services.
