Snapshot of Nurses at Work
Each year, members provide employment and practice information on their annual membership renewal form. The College uses this data to prepare a “snapshot” of where and how nurses are working in Ontario. This information is used by the College and by provincial and federal stakeholders to make decisions about policies and nursing resources.
As nursing labour issues become increasingly important, the need for accurate and timely statistics is growing. As was noted in the June issue, CNO has seen an increase in the number of nurses not providing information on their working status. The graphs on page 35 show this trend continues (see Not Specified category). To improve the collection of information, the College is revising the annual membership renewal form (see page 37) and improving how the statistics are reported. The following are a preview of what will appear in the new statistics report to be released later this year.
