Our Readers WriteRight on the wireI’ve received my copy of The Standard and the Telepractice guideline. Congratulations on a job well done! This is really good news for those of us at NORTH Network who are dealing with these issues on a day-to-day basis. It may serve to assist us in further delineating roles and responsibilities as we support our member organizations in implementing telepractice solutions in their organizations. – Karen Waite, RN The unofficial preceptorI am a 2005 RPN graduate and feel the need to write this letter in response to a quote that was published in the Standard of Care section in the December 2005 issue of The Standard, which stated “Professional relationships: A nurse demonstrates the standard by sharing knowledge with others to promote best practice outcomes.” I want to take this opportunity to thank a special nurse I work with at Northumberland Hills Hospital who is always more than willing to share her knowledge and lend a helping hand. I would like to thank Karen Adams, RN, on CCU. Karen’s willingness to go the extra mile has benefited the patients and staff on our unit. I have learned a lot from Karen, and although Karen has never been an official preceptor for me, she has unofficially been able to make a positive impact on my nursing career. Any time I have needed to talk about a concern or share my excitement about a new experience, Karen has always been there — whether it is by sharing similar past experiences or just listening. Karen is an excellent example of a nurse who is always promoting best practice outcomes for the patients on our unit and for that, I thank her. – Shelley Morland, RPN
