Resuscitation Review Tool

Introduction

The purpose of this review tool is to provide a framework for reviewing resuscitation knowledge and policies within the practice facility. It is based on the Resuscitation, Revised 1999 practice standard and the current legislation embedded within that practice standard, and addresses specific issues related to implementing the practice standard. Individual nurses or group facilitators can use the tool for self assessment, policy development, or to advocate for change within a facility that can facilitate the application of the Resuscitation, Revised 1999 practice standard.

How to use this document

The tool consists of two parts: Part A is a series of questions. Part B provides explanations, definitions and additional information, as well as space for collated responses. After completing Part A, compare your responses to those provided in Part B. Individual nurses can complete it on their own. Facilitators can distribute Part A to groups.

Individuals:

Complete Part A. Then compare your answers to those provided in Part B. You can develop a learning plan to address any knowledge gaps.

Use the comments section (or additional paper if more space is required) to provide more information. For example, for Question 1, you could attach a copy of your organization’s Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) policy or just write the highlights of the policy for your reference.

Facilitators:

Distribute Part A to participants and explain how to complete it. Collate the answers on Part B. Reference the third column to support any conclusions and/or recommendations, and respond to participants with suggestions based on the supporting information.
