CNO Prepares for IncorporationThe College is preparing for its role in incorporating nurses' practices. Earlier this year, the government approved regulations under the Regulated Health Professions Act that would allow nurses to incorporate their practices and set out the requirements for health regulatory colleges to issue, renew and revoke certificates of authorization for incorporations. The legislation allowing for incorporation of regulated health professions was proclaimed in November 2001. New ProcessUnder the legislation, the corporation must be issued a certificate of authorization by the regulatory body, and is subject to certain investigative and regulatory powers. The College is now developing the bylaws and administrative processes needed to register professional corporations and maintain public information. Until now health professionals were not allowed to incorporate their business practices. Incorporation may provide some nurses with the same tax advantages that are available to other businesses. To learn more about the advantages of incorporation, contact a lawyer or accountant. CNO will provide updates in Communiqué on the new incorporation processes as they are developed. [top] |
