COVID-19: Emergency Assignment Class

Nurses and nurse employers: A new provincial order authorizes health care professionals, including nurses, to provide patient care services outside their regular scope of practice. It also enables hospitals to engage regulated health professionals from out of province.

You can read the order here and our update here. As further information becomes available, we will provide it on this website.

Starting April 19, 2021, the Emergency Assignment Class (EAC) has been enacted for the purpose of allowing qualified individuals to provide nursing care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EAC comes into force when the provincial government declares an emergency and asks CNO to register qualified nurses in the Emergency Assignment Class.

Registration in the EAC lasts for 60 days and may be extended to meet the needs of the health care system during the pandemic.

Note: The expiry date for all EAC registrations has been extended to Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

There is no fee to register in this class.

For more information, including how to register, read COVID-19: Emergency Assignment Class FAQs.
