Nursing Week: May 10-16

Nursing Week is the annual celebration of our profession and an opportunity to recognize the many ways nurses contribute to safe patient care. It is held every May to coincide with Florence Nightingale’s birthday, a nursing pioneer who helped to make nursing an evidence-based profession.

This year the College of Nurses of Ontario recognizes nurses’ courage and commitment as they continue to answer the call to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are responding with expertise and compassion to a crisis in our health care system while dealing with a high level of uncertainty and stress such as they may never have experienced before in their role.

Nurses are leaders in care and public policy, they are educators, and they are our partners in patient safety. We work with nurses, including the nurses at CNO, to achieve our purpose: to protect the public by promoting safe nursing practice.

To the nurses of Ontario: we continue to appreciate and applaud your dedication and we understand you are considering patients’ needs, their safety, and that you are doing your very best. Thank you for answering the call every day.

CNO’s Nursing Week 2021 video recognizes and celebrates the many ways nurses answer the call.
