Tell us what you think: Updating CNO’s Code of Conduct

We’ve been working on modernizing the Code of Conduct, and we want your feedback on our proposed changes. This is an opportunity to have your voice heard on changes that impact patient safety and your nursing accountabilities.

The Code is CNO’s overarching practice standard, which outlines the expectations for safe, ethical and professional nursing practice. Through a review of evidence and broad consultation with nurses, academics, and the public, including groups that inform concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion, we’re proposing revisions to the Code that make your professional accountabilities clearer, set a few new standards, and put more emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion.

“CNO is working on modernizing its practice standards to reflect the evolving health care needs of patients and the dynamic nature of the nursing profession,” said Anne Marie Shin, Director of Professional Practice. “As CNO’s central practice standard, we are modernizing the Code so that it reflects our current environment and better supports safe nursing practice. Your feedback will help us further refine the updates we are making to the Code.”

All nurses are welcome to provide feedback. The deadline to comment is Friday, Sept. 30, 2022.
