    Welcome to the College of Nurses’ guide to registration for Nurse Practitioners.

  2. Practising as an NP in Ontario

    Only members of the College's Extended Class are permitted to call themselves “Nurse Practitioners” and practise as NPs within the province of Ontario.

  3. Beginning the Application Process - Nurse Practitioner

    The application process for NPs begins when an applicant contacts the College and requests the Nurse Practitioner Specialty Certificate Application Package.

  4. Registration Requirements

    During the application process, the College assesses all NP applicants to determine whether they meet the following registration requirements.

  5. Registration requirements for registered Canadian NPs

NPs must have a certificate of registration in one of the specialties (Primary Health Care, Adult or Paediatric) equivalent to the one for which they are applying in Ontario....

  6. Examinations - Nurse Practitioner

    All applicants to the Extended Class must take the NP registration examination approved by Council for the requested NP specialty certificate.

  7. Initial Registration - Nurse Practitioner

    When you have successfully met all registration requirements, you can complete your registration online and pay the applicable fee.  

  8. Requesting Accommodation

    Everyone who writes an examination as part of their application to the College has the right to request accommodation.
