This webcast will provide you with an overview of CNO’s modernized Code of Conduct.

Confidentiality and privacy webcasts

This two-chapter webcast was created to educate nurses and other interested parties about the serious legal responsibility of protecting personal health information.

Discontinuing or Declining to Provide Care practice standard webcast

This webcast will help you understand your accountabilities when it comes to the refusal of care or discontinuing nursing service. It is based on CNO’s Discontinuing or Declining to Provide Care practice standard.

Medication practice standard webcast

This webcast is based on the Medication practice standard, a short, principle-based document that uses common nursing principles to guide your medication practice.

Documentation practice standard webcast

This webcast is based on CNO’s Documentation practice standard. It applies to all nurses in all roles in all practice settings as of February 1, 2026. Nursing documentation is an important component of nursing practice and the interprofessional documentation in the client’s health record. Documentation, whether paper, electronic, audio or visual is used to monitor a client’s progress and communicate with other care providers. It also reflects the nursing care that is provided to a client.

Registered Nurse (RN) Prescribing practice standard webcast

This webcast will help you understand the regulation changes, education options and the Registered Nurse (RN) Prescribing practice standard.

Scope of Practice webcast

This webcast will provide you with an overview of the Scope of Practice practice standard, which outlines nurses’ legislative accountabilities and other key requirements nurses need to consider when deciding whether to perform an activity. This webcast will help you better understand the standard and how to apply it in your practice.

Professional Boundaries and Nurse-Client Relationships Practice Standard

This webcast is based on the College’s Professional Boundaries and Nurse-Client Relationships practice standard that is in effect March 1, 2026. It applies to all nurses in all roles in all practice settings.

Critical inquiry and evidence-informed practice webcast

This webcast was recorded during a CNO interview with Karen Riddell, Director, Professional Practice and Operations at Windsor Regional Hospital, and Nancy Lefebre, Chief Clinical Executive Senior VP Knowledge and Practice at Saint Elizabeth. Nancy and Karen share their expertise on the concepts of critical inquiry and evidence-informed practice and how they apply to nursing.

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) webcast

This webcast informs nurses about the changes related to the March 17, 2021 implementation of Bill C-7 under the Criminal Code. It is an overview of how these changes affect NPs who provide MAID and the role of RNs and RPNs who support patients in the MAID process. It also includes information based on the practice experiences of an NP who provides MAID.

This webcast includes three videos that show how practice reflection is an important part of every nurse's practice.

Sexual abuse prevention webcast

This webcast helps educate nurses on what our research has revealed about grooming techniques, maintaining boundaries and the important role nurses have in preventing this patient harm.

Learning modules

Each self-study learning module is self-directed. It is used to enhance your learning of CNO’s standards and guidelines. Learning modules are not considered a substitute for reading the corresponding practice standard or guideline.

You can watch these modules at any time. CNO does not track the identity of people who watch the learning modules. CNO does not issue certificates for completion.

Code of Conduct: Principle 2 learning module

To support nurses with the application of Principle 2 in the Code of Conduct, CNO has created a series of learning modules focused on the three core behaviours of this principle: self-reflection, creating safer health care experiences, and training and education. This series outlines the actions and behaviours nurses can use to provide inclusive and culturally safe care. These learning modules were created in collaboration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Consent learning module

Nurses have professional and legal obligations for obtaining consent. CNO's Consent practice guideline provides an overview of the major features of the relevant legislation, pertinent definitions and the steps that nurses need to take to obtain consent.

Scope of Practice learning module

The Scope of Practice standard helps nurses to make informed decisions about what activities they can perform safely and competently for their clients. Learn more about the standard and its key concepts of authority, context and competence.

Temporary Class learning module

CNO’s Temporary Class learning module provides an overview of nursing regulation in Ontario. It is designed to help applicants better understand the legal and ethical issues, and the professional accountabilities of the nursing profession.
