Volunteer for the REx-PN Standard Setting Panel

The REx-PN Test Plan is evaluated on a five-year schedule, involving an extensive job analysis survey of newly licensed nurses and input from various nursing experts. The latest REx-PN Test Plan will take effect on January 1, 2027.

Along with the test plan, the passing standard for the REx-PN exam is re-evaluated every five years to ensure it is appropriate for the corresponding examination. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is seeking Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) to volunteer for the Standard Setting Panel of Judges.

The Panel plays a critical role in providing important information, based on the experience and knowledge gained from working with entry-level nurses, to the Practical Nurse Examination Committee (PNEC) for setting the final passing standard for the next five years of the REx-PN exam.

The Panel will be composed of a minimum of nine members, representing British Columbia and Ontario jurisdictions and various clinical practice areas. This meeting is scheduled for June 9-11, 2026, in Chicago, IL, USA. If you meet the criteria and are selected, NCSBN will cover travel-related expenses (Chicago, Illinois) for panel members, including airfare, lodging, and meals.

By volunteering, you may be selected to participate on the Panel. To be considered for participation, you must meet the following criteria:

  • RN or RPN with an active nursing license in good standing,
  • Employed as a nurse for at least 2 years, and
  • One or more of the following apply:
    • Faculty members who currently supervise undergraduate RPN students in the clinical area
    • Works with, precepts and/or supervises newly licensed RPNs within their first 12 months of practice
    • Works in clinical practice areas of newly licensed RPNs as reported in the practice analysis study.
