Council establishes CNO’s goals, objectives and policies according to our governing legislation.

As CNO’s board of directors, Council’s role is to: 

  • set and oversee direction for the regulation of the nursing profession 
  • set and oversee direction for the organization.  

Council decisions are made in the public interest with an understanding of the profession and the different settings in which nurses practice.

Council is composed of:

  • 14 RNs who are elected in accordance with the by-laws
  • 7 RPNs who are elected in accordance with the by-laws
  • 14 to 18 public members who are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council 

Council members serve on at least one statutory committee
